5 things you don't know

 


1. He grew up in poverty:



Right now Núñez can afford pretty much whatever he wants, but about a decade ago the story was very different. 

He grew up in a very poor neighborhood in Artigas Uruguay 🇺🇾 

His father was a construction worker, while his mom sold bottle to try and make ends meet, him and his brother will often go to bed hungry, but according to Darwin himself it was his mom you go to bed hungry more often just to make sure that him and his brother gets something to eat every now and then, growing up generally very difficult for him, apart from not being able to afford basic necessities the area they lived was prompt to flooding, so whenever it rains heavily they will lose profitable properties and probably won't be able to sleep in their home for days, things only started to look out for him when he found Football as a teenager.




2. He is from a footballing family:



Darwin is not the only one in the family with the zeal for football, He's older brother Junior Núñez is also a professional footballer.

He plays for Uruguay until he quit the sport some years back




3. His brother sacrifices his career for him:



Junior Núñez discover Football before Darwin did.

The two brothers will train together as they played for the same club in Uruguay. But for that time, Football was not yet profitable for them, considering their parents current income was not enough to feed the family talk more of buying Football essentials for the boys, Junior decided to sacrifice his dream of becoming a footballer to go and find a job to help support the family.

He told Darwin that he could make it in football so he should keep walking at it, essentially he gave up his own dreams so that his younger brother could go ahead and live his own.

4. He nearly quit football:



Back then in 2017 Darwin was still an unknown youngster doing his thing very good in Uruguay.

He was walking hard on improving his game and he was really determine to achieve his dream for playing on a big European stage, but his dream nearly came to an end at just 19 years of age.

He suffered a serious injury to his knee which kept him out for about nine (9) months. He got the injury in February 2017 that delayed his senior team debut to around November that year, but unfortunately things got was for Núñez after his debut.

In December the teenager have to pass through a surgery on that same knee and that kept him out for a further six months, it was a very hard time for teenage boy so he strongly consider quitting. He confessed that at the moment he had that injury he considered quitting but his family and teammates was very supportive and kept encouraging him to keeping focusing on his recovery. 




5. He Could have became a Barcelona Star:



In 2019 Darwin Núñez finally secured a move to Europe and guess where? 

He went to Spain, he was signed by Almeria and immediately got a five year deal because the Spanish club new how good he will be.

When he was in Spain his follow country mate Luis Squarez who was in Barcelona at the time told the captain on how Almeria new boy is doing be insisted that they sign him. But Barcelona who were going through a tough financial crisis, passed on the offer which was not a good one actually.
